FIRST MEETING OF THE NORTH-EAST SECTION OF THE DINGHY CRUISING ASSOCIATION

M. Trayer 1957 Q3 Bulletin 005/08 Locations: East Coast, Grimsby, Humber, Lowestoft, Tyne

Held at 48 Carr Lane, Grimsby, on 24th March 1957.

There were eight present. The meeting opened with apologies from six people interested but unable to attend. Mr D.T. Jones was elected Chairman and Mr M. Trayer, Secretary, and all present are to form the committee until the next A.G.M.

After a long discussion S. Seltzer proposed that the section be known as the Dinghy Cruising Association, North-East Section (Humber Division). It was felt that as dinghy cruising is a popular and ever increasing sport, someone who is really in the north-east e.g. the Tyne, might start another section of the Association.

The cruising programme drawn up was accepted subject to the weather and copies are to be sent to four local clubs.

G. Peers suggested that the East Coast Section be asked if any members would like to come to Grimsby and sail with us to Lowestoft, changing boats at the rally and returning to their home ports. Possibly several at our members would be keen on doing the same.

D.T. Jones suggested that owing to the number of people who are just embarking on cruising in dinghies it would be advisable to have a set standard of equipment necessary and that before an extensive open water cruise a certificate should be signed by the respective officers stating that the vessel is in satisfactory condition and is properly equipped. After all agreeing, it was decided to put it before the other sections to determine their opinions. A proposed list of equipment and standards was drawn up.

Capt. S.C. Keene is to be invited to give an informal talk on small boat navigation sometime before the season begins in earnest.
