NEWS FROM THE GROUPS

N.W. Midlands Group The next meeting will he held on Friday, 15th November at the Imperial Hotel, London Road, Manchester (opposite to Piccadilly Railway Station) at 7.30 p.m. There will be a discussion, opened by Joan Abrams, on “Dinghy Cruising with a Family”.

South Coast Group For once good weather prevailed for the South Coast rally held on July 27th at the Hamble River. Eighteen members — John Clark, Peter Glover, Ernest Bailey, Mr. & Mrs. Bonnett, their son and poodle, Ron & Jeanne Long, Eric & Maureen Coleman, Brian Naylor, Roy Clarke, Mr. & Mrs. Palmer, Mr. & Mrs. Deacon, Ron Dean, George Dyer — arrived in various ways from many different directions and a meeting was held on the foreshore, known as Lands End, just below Bursledon Bridge. Six boats were present, John Clark’s new boat Puffin built on the lines of a Yachts and Yachting scowler but slightly longer. John Deacon’s Jady Lane whose trips are well known to readers of the bulletin. Ron Dean’s Walker Twelve dinghy. Ron had arrived very early and had sailed over to Cowes and back. Anthony Bonnett’s 18’ Belouga cabin yacht, the Bonnett family having sailed over from Newtown. Roy Clarke’s 5 tonner Barnacle Goose, more of her later. Last but not least Eric Coleman’s Aurora from Malden, which was cruising on the South Coast. Aurora was the centre of attraction, Eric gave many South Coast members an opportunity to see how he gets a quart into a pint pot. The other main topic of interest was Ron Dean’s home designed and built trailer, employing a unique method of suspension.

Tea was brewed on various stoves brought ashore and many thanks must go to the ladies present for this service. Unfortunately the meeting ended all too soon and most of the members had to return home.

However the lucky members who camped overnight were all invited aboard Roy’s yacht for the rest of the evening to continue our discussions with interruptions for liquid refreshment.

Sunday was another beautiful day providing good sailing for the Belouga which returned to Keyhaven, Aurora who joined the Surrey Schools cruise to Shalfleet and Jady Lane who took a trip in Southampton Water before climbing on to her trailer at Hamble.

North London Group There will be a meeting at The Running Horse, Davies St., London, W.1. on Friday 8th November at 8 p.m. The main topic will be “Cruising Dinghy Designs”.
