SOUTH COAST GROUP NEWS

Peter Glover reported at the A.G.M. that in general, the season had suffered from the inclement weather. Two successful rallies were held, the Whitsun rally at Bursledon had enjoyed one of the bright periods the weather men keep in reserve, while the Ashlett Creek meeting was not so fortunate. The attendance at both rallies was encouraging although the number of boats has gradually fallen.

In proposing rallies and meetings for 1966 it is not always easy to find a suitable meeting point that has all the facilities one would wish, however Ashlett Creek seems to have a good many. Good car parking, plenty of ground for those wishing to camp ashore, although not an official camp site. Launching from a ramp until one hour before L.W. Public conveniences, and last but not least a nearby pub for those fortunate to camp overnight.

This year the WHITSUN RALLY will be at ASHLETT CREEK NR. FAWLEY on SUNDAY 29th MAY at 4 p.m. Tea will be provided, please bring your own cups.

The lack of boats attending rallies last year was mainly due to the fact that of the small group of regular campers that had been building up the previous season at least three boats had been sold leaving a rather depleted fleet. It is hoped at least four boats will be fitted out for camping this season and that the new members who joined last year will help to build up the group again. It has also been suggested that Frensham Pond would be a suitable and more central meeting place. Any further ideas or suggestions for the coming season would be welcomed by Peter Glover, 12 Pilgrims Way, Hill Head, Fareham, Hants.
