North West Rally
The rally to be held in the Menai Straits on August 23rd-24th is within trailing distance for a great many Midlands based members, some of whom may have done little coastal sailing as yet. The north-eastern end of the Straits is an ideal place to start. It is fairly sheltered, especially from the prevailing westerly winds, and there are no great hazards in the stretch of tidal water between Beaumaris and Puffin Island. There can be few cruising areas to beat it for scenery, with the wooded shores of Anglesey and Caernarvonshire against a background of 3000 foot hills — the Carnedds, Glyders, and Snowdon groups. We are to be made welcome at the North West Venturers’ Club at Gallows Point, and will sail from there at 1030 hours on August 23rd.
