LONDON DINGHY EXHIBITION (13th/14th March 1971)

John Deacon 1971 Q1 Bulletin 050/05 Locations: Helford, Orwell Boats: Wayfarer

The Dinghy Cruising Association staged their normal exhibit; this year, Jim Smith’s Wayfarer cleverly modified for cruising proved most interesting.

Assisted by Frank Dye we also provided two one-hour lecture sessions each on Saturday and again on Sunday. One session was on ‘Where to Cruise’, with attractive slides of favourite areas from Helford to the Orwell. Our second period was ‘How to Cruise’. The four sessions were attended by a total of about five hundred people.

Next year the exhibit will be managed by John Peel of 33 Blythe Hill Lane, London SE6 (telephone 01 690 0382) who will welcome offers of assistance to build and staff our stand from 0900 until 1800 on the Sunday (or for any period in between).

The boat has yet to be chosen, and offers or suggestions will also be welcomed.

To improve the way we present the Association to the wide audience the Crystal Palace attracts each year, John Clarke has promised an overhead double-faced signboard with wings off the uprights for photographs etc.

It’s a good place to spend a winter week-end, swimming in the magnificent pool and talking sailing. Next March it is hoped that even more members will spend a few hours in these pleasant surroundings.
