NORTH WEST WATER BOATING GUIDE
This guide to the boating waters of the area is published by the Public Information Unit, North West Water Authority, Dawson House, Great Sankey, Warrington WA5 3LW. It contains a great deal of useful information for anyone wanting to find a sailing place not too far away from home, with notes on reservoirs, lakes and rivers. It has also a coastal section. This must have been compiled with the aid of local clubs, I imagine, for this is where I find the guide inadequate. It refers to waters such as Seascale where there is an off-the-beach sailing club on an exposed coast, but makes no reference to the splendid estuary at Ravenglass nearby. Of course, there is no club at Ravenglass.
I had a reply to my letter pointing out various omissions — they answered me in some detail and at length. Apparently the task of getting information from public authorities proved time-consuming and endless, which was why the guide was published without it. There is hope that it may be included in a later edition for facilities by the sea, at least.
I might suggest that members could do worse than pass on to North West Water any information they think should appear — or would this be likely to cause crowding of our favourite anchorages?
