NW Area Rally — Rudyard Lake — 17/18 April 1982

Unknown author 1982 Q2 Bulletin 095/05

The rally was attended by four boats and a total of thirteen people in the course of the weekend. On Saturday, Brian Shea, Edwin Dewhirst, Norman Skyrme and I launched our boats. We drifted and sailed down to the far end of the lake and had lunch amongst the trees lining the bank. The water level was very high and we were able to sail to the northern end of the lake which is usually dried out. We enjoyed the warm sunshine, chatting over lunch. Brian Haskins and Joan Abrams had joined us for the day and we sailed back to the launching slip in time for tea and their lifts home.

Three boats spent the night anchored off the beach in a little cove with a fallen tree as a gang plank. We sampled Edwin’s home brew until driven into our beds by the cold. In the morning, we rowed down the lake with the Sunday morning rowers (equivalent of water joggers). My family came down for a day of drifting and fluky winds. Apart from the lack of wind, the weekend made another good start to the season.
