SOUTH COAST RALLIES
SHAKE-DOWN, WOOTTON CREEK — Fifteen people in seven boats met two American visitors (see Bulletin No. 100). Very fine weather.
SHALFLEET — Twelve people in seven boats met by Jim Smith in his pulling dinghy. After closing time five of us had to walk on the river bed back to our boats, and one of us was already in his change of clothes after an unplanned swim on his way to the pub! Welcome back to Ian McCreary and Peter Glover.
KEYHAVEN — Three locals claimed laziness and George Dyer old age for travelling by road to meet Phil Nash, Brian Collins and, from Christchurch, Paul Weston in his Devon Yawl and Ray Thornton in his Roamer crewed by Julian.
COWES — A massive twenty people in twelve boats! No new faces, but nice to see Tony Sterckx from Wales again. John Q reports that whilst sailing home on Sunday they were asked for directions to HM Customs by two French men sailing a 14’ Hobie-cat (that’s the one like a trampoline slung between two plastic bananas!). Mmm… the trampoline would make a very comfortable double bed… have any members cruised in a cat?
POOLE — I was unable to attend and have not heard from anyone who did.
BEMBRIDGE AND CHICHESTER — Poor weather stopped me and probably anyone else from attending.
IN SUMMARY — A very good season except for the last couple of rallies spoiled by the weather.
