LETTER TO THE EDITOR from Chris Morgan Dear Joan
Dear Joan
As a new member of the DCA, I thought I’d let you have my first impressions.
To start with, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the two Bulletins I was sent — I felt, however, that some of the exploits were rather too adventurous to emulate (singlehanded in a Wayfarer to Labrador, for instance). I realise that day sailing is less exciting to write about, but surely we don’t have to undertake epic voyages, camping in the boat, in order to dinghy cruise and get a mention in the Bulletin?
Also, where are all the families? We thought cruising would be a much more suitable way of enjoying our dinghy with the children, rather than racing — are we wrong? If the DCA aims to promote all forms of dinghy sailing other than racing, I would have expected some family cruises to be mentioned in the Bulletin and provision made for children at one rally, at least, this year.
I was disappointed with the lack of members and activity in S. Wales — omitted, it would seem by your areas. I had hoped to meet people, picking up tips from local sailors as well as attending a rally closer than 100 miles away! I have, however, made use of the library and must compliment Elizabeth Baker on her promptness in sending the books and her friendly letter than accompanied them.
Peter Bick is to receive a few queries — I think it is a wonderful service to have an independent technical adviser — does he write up articles based on queries received for the Bulletin?
I’m looking forward to many years of membership, and perhaps you’ll have a rally in Cardiff one year? Chris Morgan 85 Church Road, Tonteg, Mid Glam
