HOT TIP
A small pressure cooker with half an inch of water will take 4 normal sized (400gr) tins of food with the lids removed. For example, baked beans, ravioli, tinned potatoes and Ambrosia creamed rice. Put the pressure cooker on the stove when approaching your destination. It may be necessary to be tied on, as pressure cookers are heavy. When it comes to the boil, allow the steam to hiss for about five minutes, then turn it off. By now you should be at your destination and will need to drop anchor, dowse sails, rig tent etc.
By the time that all is snug, the pressure cooker will have cooled sufficiently to allow the top to come off. The tins of food will be piping hot. Lift out with wrench or pliers and decant into your billy can. The liquid from tinned potatoes is easily drained off if the cut‑off lid is left inside the tin.
The hot meal is ready immediately you finish sailing, and there is hardly any washing up!
