(Courtesy of Small Boat Journal) LASER TO TRIMARAN

Unknown author 1994 Q1 Bulletin 142/20 Boats: Laser

David Farnham of Massachusetts found his Laser too unstable for relaxed sailing when not racing. Turning it into a trimaran meant, in addition to the stability, that the mast remained nearly upright, minimizing wind spill and improving sail efficiency. The craft comes about quickly when tacking as both amas are then out of the water. Four bolts attach the amas to the akas and four more bolts attach the akas to the main hull. He claims the rig can be installed or dismantled in 10 minutes and the components carried on a car roof rack.
