DCA TANGLES WITH THE WEB
The computer buffs among our members — especially those on the Internet — may already know about the efforts of one of our members in putting us all on the World Wide Web pages.
Johnny Adams approached me after the last AGM and suggested that going on would give us excellent publicity, but being computer illiterate, I shrank back from the idea. After all I came from the older generation of seamen who used to say “if you can’t fix it with a marline spike or knife, you shouldn’t have it aboard in the first place”. I’ve used that phrase to justify my ignorance on so many subjects and you can understand why I’ve only recently allowed an outboard on my boat. Not that I can fix it, even with a spike or knife, of course. But getting back to the Internet, I confess it held even greater terrors for me.
I asked him if he would be willing to undertake putting us there and was more than relieved when he said “yes”. And I must praise the job he has done.
In about fifteen pages the DCA is explained to the world, our objectives, our services, our safety recommendations, our UK rally programme for 1997 and above all, how to join us! Further, he has arranged links with other groupings.
Johnny has undertaken to update these pages for us and keep the world informed. I vote him our official Spin Doctor.
