On the Net
surfing without water
Anyone who has explored the Internet seeking the DCA web page could well have found quite a few interesting items on the way: some are listed below. There are of course tons more to be found by browsing.
Jeroen Hoekstra’s Dinghy Page http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/3387/index.htm
Jeroen is a DCA member who bought the plans for building the Roamer dinghy at the end of 1994. He has cruised extensively in her and his web pages deal with his experiences of the dinghy and of various gear and equipment. He also expands his ideas on other possible cruising dinghies.
Whitehall Rowing and Sail http://www.whitehallrow.com/
There is much information here on recreational rowing including some on cruising.
Cruising the Ottawa River in an Open Dinghy tp://www.magma.ca/~mcsail/ott/dinghy.htm
Self explanatory.
The Thames to the Solent by Canal and Sea by J B Dashwood http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/weysouth/
Some years ago Len Wingfield organised a few DCA members, in an attempt as far as it was possible, to emulate the journey described in this book. It took place in 1867 in a 15’ dinghy by the author accompanied by his wife — and incidentally by his groom. The whole text of the book can be found at this site. All the illustration are included but the quality of these is poor, as the scanning was badly done unfortunately.
