May 23rd-25th (Spring Bank Holiday Weekend) CROUCH RALLY at North Fambridge on the Saturday evening, as part of the North Fambridge YC’s centenary celebrations. June 10th-27th To replace the cancelled Shotley Classic Boat Festival, the EC area of the OGA is having discussions about an alternative event during this week. It is hoped to join the Maritime Ipswich event on the first weekend and then possibly spend a couple of days in the Walton Backwaters before going to the Suffolk Yacht Harbour (Levington Marina) for the remainder of the week. July 18th EAST COAST OLD GAFFERS RACE This event usually attracts about a hundred gaffers of various types and sizes. There is a special class for small open boats. Start and finish will be off West Mersea, River Blackwater with West Mersea Yacht Club once more hosting the event. Contact Jon Wainwright, as above.

September 5th OPEN BOATS RACE and RALLY Again at West Mersea, this event is open to any gaff or lug rigged open boats under 6 metres in length. Contact Sue Taylor, tel: 01206 482843.

September 26th MALDON ANNIVERSARY RALLY and TOWN REGATTA Joint event between OGA and Maldon Town Regatta Committee. There will be a sailing race starting from West Mersea and finishing off Osea Pier, then a sail up to Hythe Quay in Maldon on the high tide. Social activities ashore. Contact Jon Wainwright, as above.
