Elton Sailing Club, Elton Reservoir, Elton, Bury, Lancs. — Saturday 5th February 2000

This meeting — 11 am to 4.30 pm — will follow the usual format. Members will be encouraged to show slides and photos of this year’s sailing. A programme of summer rallies will be discussed and arranged at this meeting. As usual there will be an excellent lunch provided at a cost of £7.50 per head which covers the use of the hall. In order to help Brian McClellan organise the catering, would anyone intending to come please ring him on 01630 654781 at least a week before the event.

If you have a contribution to make — slides, talk etc. — please let Brian know.

South Coast The Crown, Emsworth — Sunday 23rd January 2000

Meeting from 7 pm. Food will be available at £7 per head. This is the same venue as last year which, although a little dearer than the Black Horse, is quieter and more self-contained.

Hardy sailors will be able to launch and/or recover their boats at Emsworth Hard or Northney Marina any time between 9 am and 5 pm. Brrrrrh!!!

Please bring any photos (slides or prints) or other paraphernalia that might be of interest to other members. Hope to see you there.

NEW!!! — Southeast Winter Rendezvous - Saturday 26th February 2000 As an experiment, I thought I would try another, totally informal gathering which might be easier for members who live in the SE. It doesn’t matter where you sail. I’m not booking anything, but I’ll be pleased to meet any DCA members in ‘THE GOLDEN GALLEON’ at Exeat, East Sussex from about 6 pm.

This pub which does do food, is about a mile east of Seaford on the A259 Seaford to Eastbourne road, where, heading east, the road turns sharp left to cross the River Cuckmere. This is a popular venue and likely to be crowded, but I’ll endeavour to make a DCA burgee visible for identification.

If you decide to come early, there are wonderful walks to be had down the river bank to Cuckmere Haven or up-river to Alfriston, over the Seven Sisters to Birling Gap, or through the woodland paths of Friston Forest. Why not bring the family and make a day of it.
