Well! We can't be accused now of disregarding capsizing. All the ideas and activity about this will no doubt lead many of us to try it out. This will probably have the good result of scaring stiff those who have regarded capsizing as such a disaster that they've never actually experienced it. I can’t sensibly advise the others who do it all the time when racing to go out in Force 7 and try it at sea. One aspect not made much of in the plethora of letters and articles in this Bulletin is the effect on stowage plans. In a boat that has always stayed right way up one can become complacent, and forget to observe one’s careful intentions. On the one occasion when I capsized with all cruising gear on board, we lost rudder, lifejackets and other expensive items. Anything which makes us think, and take greater care, is good. JA
