LETTER TO THE EDITOR Dear Joan,
Dear Joan,
I, like Kevin Evans have a boat which is rather larger than a dinghy. In fact it is a 22' Seal which lives on a mooring in Kirkcudbright Harbour. However I have decided to remain with the DCA and perhaps Kevin should do the same.
The reason is that there are quite a few members who own what was once described at an AGM as dinghies with extended foredecks! and the culture of the DCA is more akin to my type of sailing than the peaked hat brigade of the RYA.
Even though I cannot take my boat to rallies (except the Kirkcudbright Rally) I still attend rallies and beg a sail with other members. They are often more than pleased to have an additional crew member. Most of the rallies in the Lake District lend themselves to day sailing which means that I can enjoy a sail in a dinghy and camp ashore.
Additionally the Bulletin is still of interest to me, even though naturally many of the articles are about exploits in dinghies it is certainly a lot more interesting than the Yotty Mags.
And finally Kevin, what is a Lysander but an overgrown dinghy! You can trail it if you want to and you need to sit on the weather side to balance her.
Think again Kevin Evans, think again. Terry Hughes
