This report of Brian's epic cruise somehow missed publication at the time, but is published below with a sketch-map added. Some members may feel that such an ambitious cruise was too risky for a teenager to undertake, and others may also feel that an Albacore is unsafe as a cruising dinghy. Perhaps we should bear in mind that only a few years earlier lads of that age were piloting not just fast and demanding boats but fast and demanding aircraft, and that expert helmsmen rate the Albacore as a superb sea-boat - given a crew with advanced skills and high stamina. The stamina required would be about the same as that needed for a fast time in the Welsh 14 Peaks mountain marathon.
