Sea Marks 1

A new regular feature - things of interest seen from our boats

The intention here is that members should describe something of interest they have seen from their boats – once, or frequently. This could be an old friend like a lighthouse which is passed often, a favourite anchorage, an impressive building by the water's edge, a familiar sight which tells you that you are nearly home – or about to start a cruise: anything! Even something much more ephemeral, like encountering seals, porpoises or otters. How you treat your subject is up to you. It might be a reminiscence of an exciting time spent sailing in its vicinity; the first time you encountered it; its history; what makes it unique – whatever!

You can send in a photograph, drawing or chart to accompany your text if you wish, but again the feature will be no more than a page in total. This kind of submission will require a little more effort than finding your favourite boaty quotation, but it will still be far easier than writing a full article, so you should be able to slot it into your busy lifestyle. In this issue Joan has started us off with the much-lamented Earwig bell buoy; Bruce's castle at East Loch Tarbert is being prepared. Time to start rooting through deck logs and albums – but I'm betting that all of you can think of several possibilities immediately without too much head-scratching! KM
